A loan of $100,000 at 7% costs $775 a month over 20 years and $1,161 over 10. Enter the price, down payment, rate and term to see the monthly payment and the total interest, and how the partners in a shared aircraft would divide it. Loan of 127,500 after 22,500 down, repaid over 240 months. Total interest 98,668; total repaid 226,168.
Split equally between 4 partners: 5,625 each down, 235.59 each a month. That split is your own agreement. The lender usually sees one loan of 127,500 that each partner must qualify for.

Principal and interest at a fixed rate. Read the row of your rate and the column of your term, and scale it to your loan: $150,000 costs one and a half times as much.

For the rates lenders publish and what they require, read aircraft loan rates and terms (rates read 1 November 2026). Aircraft lenders will require a minimum down payment of 15% on aircraft newer than 1960 and 20% for older aircraft.
Sharing the aircraft? Keep the split straight
The lender sends one bill, and the partners settle it among themselves every month. In Pilot-Next the fixed share, loan payment included if you agree that, can be a recurring fee with an own amount per owner, billed as an invoice on each owner's account, and each pilot settles their own flights with the meter readings.

Aircraft loans: questions
Take the loan amount P, the monthly rate i (the yearly rate divided by 12) and the number of months n: the payment is P × i ÷ (1 − (1 + i)^−n). A loan of $100,000 at 7% costs $775 a month over 20 years and $1,161 a month over 10 years. This is the level-payment formula for a fixed-rate loan, and it matches the payments Wings Credit Union prints and FLYING Finance's calculator shows.
Use the rate from your own quote. The calculator starts at 6.39%, the published starting rate FLYING Finance listed for a certified piston aircraft in November 2026; that is a starting figure, and most buyers should test a higher one. The published rates, with their conditions, are in our article on aircraft loan rates.
The partners can split the payment between themselves, but the lender usually does not. AOPA Aviation Finance writes: "The loan will not be divided between the partners, so each partner would need to qualify as if they were the only one buying the airplane." It adds that four partners is often the maximum lenders allow.
Only if your quote gives an APR or a true annual rate, and even then fees are not included. A UK flat rate is a different calculation: in a Buckley Aircraft Finance example a flat rate of 4.56% was the same loan as 8.9% APR. Do not enter a flat rate here. A balloon payment at the end is not modelled either.
It covers principal and interest only. Insurance, which lenders require, hangar, maintenance and fuel come on top, and sales tax is not part of the loan at AOPA’s lenders. Our aircraft ownership cost calculator shows those costs per type.
This calculator gives an estimate from the numbers you enter. It is not an offer of credit or financial advice, and Pilot-Next does not provide loans. Your lender's offer has the final word.
